Are You Called by God to Start a Business?
Having a passion and a desire to start your own business and being successful is not bad! The Lord may have placed that passion in your heart so He can use you mightily for His glory! You may have a calling from the Lord to be His light and salt in the marketplace. As the Lord prospers you and your business, the Lord can also use you mightily in supporting ministries, feeding the poor and as a powerful testimony of a presence driven kingdom enterprise. All for the glory of God! I believe that Christians should become a light to this dark world! We should take our spot as leaders just like what the Lord modeled for us all. We had been given authority and all resources for this to manifest. However, many are called but few are chosen. For too long we had unrighteous people lead in the marketplace. It is now the time to take our spot back and fulfill our God given destiny and calling! For Christian businessmen and women, it is now the right time to become the head and not the tail! Let us lead in different industries! Let us all arise and shine for our light has come!
Proverbs 13:22
“A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.”
Romans 8:19
“For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are.”
How would you know if you are called to manage God’s business in the marketplace? As a marketplace intercessor, I am glad to share what I had seen and observed for 6 years. Based on my observations and the leading of the Spirit of God, I’d be happy to share a few points to help you confirm your calling for the marketplace. I have listed a few points below:
Are you receiving visions and dreams about managing your own business?
As the word of God states, our God speaks to us in visions and dreams. If you are constantly dreaming and visualizing yourself managing your own business, this may be a sign from God. God may be calling you to manage His business in the marketplace. If you are constantly visualizing yourself managing a business and you feel excitement, peace and joy in your heart, feel free to ask God for confirmation. Let Him confirm His calling for you. We have to commune with God and ask Him to give you the assurance of your calling because at this point these visions and dreams may also come from your own desire.
John 15:16
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.”
Do you have a strong desire to manage a business?
If you have a strong desire to manage a business, this may be another sign from God that He is calling you to start your business in the marketplace. A God given desire is like a fire in your heart that is unquenchable. No matter what happens you are determined to achieve your goal! You are ready to face the challenges ahead and you are ready to accept being processed by God for success! You are not afraid to exert effort because you know that in due time you shall receive your reward. The Lord will birth this desire in you! This desire is constant and is followed by wisdom for you to accomplish your goals.
Philippians 3:14
“I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”
Do you have a heart to lead and influence the Marketplace?
You can never start your own business if you are not a leader. You must become a leader by heart to manage God’s business! Your wisdom and leadership skills will always manifest if there is a need. If you see yourself as a leader, leading by example and a great influencer, you can definitely come to God and ask Him to put you where you are supposed to be. Business leaders have wisdom to effectively lead and communicate what is in their mind to their subordinates. Business leaders are also able to see the need of the marketplace. They have wisdom and creativity to answer the need of the marketplace. They have a strong desire to influence the marketplace and introduce their brand.
Hebrews 13:7
“Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.”
Do you see open doors of opportunities to start your own business?
If God is calling you to start a business in the marketplace, He will continually give you revelations about business resources. It is God giving you the assurance that once you accept His call for the marketplace, He will also supply your needs. You will see open doors of opportunities to start your business. God will give you wisdom and connect you to the correct people that will help you build your business. You will continually see opportunities that will give you inspiration to do what He has called you to do in the marketplace. God will not just drag you to start your business right away. He will set everything in place so you will not struggle. If you are experiencing this, my suggestion for you is to seek God and list down every instruction you receive from Him. By faith, wait for God’s timing. You will know the right timing to start your business by heart so you will not struggle.
Proverbs 10:22
“The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it.”
Do you have a heart to become God's channel of blessings?
God will not just prosper you so you can be rich. God will prosper you so you can become a light and a salt in the marketplace and in the community. Your prosperity has a purpose from God. If you are really called by God to start a business in the marketplace, He will also give you a desire to help others. You are not just going to prosper for yourself but you will become a testimony of God’s goodness. I believe that if you are truly called by God, He will give you a desire to help others as well. God will lead you to create a covenant with Him before He blesses you with your business. Once you accept the call of God and agree with your covenant with Him, He will then bless you and use you and your business for His glory!
Deuteronomy 15:11
"There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.”
Do you have wisdom and creativity that is sometimes misunderstood by others?
I had noticed that those who are called to become leaders will have a wisdom and creativity that is sometimes misunderstood by others. I believe that wisdom and creativity should be use for another purpose. It is a God given gift! If you read the story of Joseph, you would remember that he was called to manage an empire. But those who are around him were not able to understand his wisdom and creativity not until he was positioned as King. Sometimes, you will have an experience like this but you still have to remember that this is a test from God. He is testing if you have the character of a Godly leader, a leader who will follow after His own heart. Just learn to harness that wisdom and creativity and in due time, you will become a wise and strong business leader! God will guide you to the right path and will tell you to manifest creativity and the gift of wisdom that He has placed in you to prosper!
1 Peter 5:6
"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time."
Do you hear confirmation and encouragement from others to start your own business?
Do you hear others encourage you to start your own business? If you do, you need to pay attention to what they are saying. They must have seen your abilities and skills as a business leader. If you constantly see signs and hear encouragement from others to start your own business, this may be the right time to do it! You just need a go signal from God. Once you receive a go signal from the Lord in your heart, just obey Him and start your new adventure! You will receive a feeling of fulfillment, peace and joy in your heart.
Genesis 12:1-3
“The LORD had said to Abram, Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
If you had experienced everything that I had mentioned from the items above, then I personally believe that you are called to manage God’s business in the marketplace! I hope this information helped you understand the call for a businessmen and women in the marketplace. You will know your calling from the Lord by heart. Do not be afraid to start! Trust in the Lord always and desire to fulfill your calling and mission from Him!
